Background
In Haiti, access to healthcare is limited. Many Haitian physicians struggle to find employment in the country. The lack of healthcare facilities in Haiti is evident in the town of Dondon, where there are only two small clinics with one part-time physician serve a population of 35,000. This leads to high rates of maternal and infant mortality, as pregnant women often do not receive prenatal care and are delivered at home by untrained midwives. In the event of an emergency, it is a two-hour trip on poor roads to Cap Haitian for necessary medical attention. The Haitian Vision Foundation aims to address this issue by building a medical clinic and eventually a hospital, providing healthcare to the local population and employment opportunities for healthcare professionals. This effort was recently given a big boost when the town authorities gave HFV title to 3 acres of land to build our clinic. |
