History
In 2016, the organization conducted a three-day mobile clinic in Dondon, where a team of six medical professionals, including two physicians, two nurses, one lab technician, and one registrar, treated 297 patients.
During the clinic, the team screened patients for chronic ailments such as hypertension and diabetes. The results of the screenings revealed that 154 patients had Hypertension, 22 had type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, and 3 had type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. To provide these patients with the necessary care, the organization enrolled them in a monthly follow-up program in which a nurse checks their blood pressure and/or blood glucose and provides them with a 30-day supply of necessary medications.
It is common for Haitians to lack access to regular medical care, and preventative screenings for diseases are often out of reach. As such, screening patients was the primary purpose of the Haitian Vision Foundation's mobile clinic, with medication provision being secondary. During the three-day clinic, the organization provided patients with a one-month supply of necessary medication, which none of them could afford to purchase themselves. With monthly medication provision, the organization aims to help these patients avoid acute and chronic complications that may prove fatal.
The Haitian Vision Foundation is committed to providing personalized care to all patients. The organization's team works to create personalized treatment plans, and all patients are treated in clean rooms with fresh linens. The organization also provides patients with appropriate medication to treat their ailments at no cost to them.
Those who make an average of $100 per year in rural areas (Haitian Health Ministries, 2012) may face challenges in accessing life-saving medication, and every 30-day supply for one patient costs only about $6.50. With your support, the Haitian Vision Foundation can continue to make a positive impact in the lives of those in need.
