LibraryHVF will establish a library in each Commune (the third-level Haitian territorial division for administrative purposes) to give students a place to do homework or borrow a book to read over the weekend.
Haitian students don’t have a space at home where they can study, they don’t have access to books other than school books, and because many Haitian families do not have electricity they cannot study at night. The library will reduce all of these problems Haitian students face, which can prevent them from being successful. |

Sewing SchoolWe plan to start with a sewing school, since all Haitian schools (public or private) require a uniform. One of the biggest barriers to education for students and parents is getting a new uniform at the beginning of each academic year. The sewing school will serve two purposes by teaching Haitians how to sew while providing a source of affordable school uniforms.

English SchoolIn Haiti, speaking English is a valuable skill. English speakers can work as translators for American tourists and missionaries, or as teachers.
Additionally, since English is now a universal language, knowledge of English is necessary for many jobs, for reading a newspaper, or even understanding instructions on a medicine bottle. Speaking English will give students access to numerous unanticipated opportunities. |
